ENVIRONMENTAL COMMITMENT

“We all love mother Earth, because she is the one who has given us life and safeguards us”

Papa Franciso

Encyclical Letter ‘Laudato Sí’ on care for our common home

At Quinta de Chocapalha, we are privileged to steward a legacy entrusted to us by previous generations, with a profound responsibility to preserve it for those yet to come. Respecting and listening to the land is not simply a philosophy – it is the guiding principle that informs every decision we make. Our wines are crafted in harmony with nature, recognizing that the distinctive character of each bottle begins with the health and vitality of our terroir.

Our vineyards are cultivated under Portugal’s Integrated Production system, a holistic approach that promotes the long-term sustainability of both the soil and the vines while preserving the surrounding ecosystem. This enduring commitment to environmental stewardship was recognized in 2024 with ViniPortugal’s Sustainability Certification, an acknowledgment that our pursuit of excellence is inseparable from our responsibility to protect the land that sustains us.

Biodiversity is fundamental to the identity of our estate. Through the creation of a reservoir and the restoration of native vegetation, we have fostered a thriving natural habitat where numerous species of birds, fish, reptiles, and other wildlife have returned.

This balanced ecosystem exists alongside our cultivation of the renowned Pêra Rocha pear, another expression of our agricultural heritage whose exceptional quality proudly represents Portugal beyond its borders.

Looking to the future, we continue to invest in practices that enhance environmental efficiency and resilience. Our ongoing initiatives to reduce water consumption, together with the implementation of a photovoltaic energy system that helps power the winery, reflect our commitment to minimizing our environmental impact. By continually reducing our carbon footprint, we strive to ensure that the energy invested in every bottle is as sustainable as the landscape from which it originates, safeguarding our vineyards and their legacy for generations to come.
